Interesting concept. There's a bit more Trial & Error than I would've liked, but it's a puzzle game so that's to be expected, and the consequence for failure is minimal. I am, however, disappointed in the lack of a proper ending. Getting the real "ending" shows a congratulations screen, but no conclusion.

That, however, is my only complaint. This is a unique puzzle game that I certainly think is worth the play-through.

Update: An ending has been added! And a pretty good one at that. Thank you, Junjo, for a great experience with this game.

Junjo responds:

You are right. I have added a little ending.
Thanks for your review.

I hate. I Hate! I HATE!!

This game is a grade-A Jerk-Bag!

First off, the controls; you can't go down on the over-world, regardless of weather or not there is actually a platform there.

Second; Flappy bird?

Third; Every time you slay a demon, the results screen shows your remaining lives and then pulls a world class troll by not giving you an extra one which would be very helpful because it is unreasonably easy to die, lives are in limited supply, and there is a very small life cap.

Fourth; Flappy bird!?

Fifth; There are some levels (I'm not gonna call them enemies or bosses) where you can't see the teeth (which kill you instantly, taking away your very limited lives) until it's already too late. This is what I, as an aspiring game developer myself call "Forced difficulty through bad game design."

and Finally; FUCKING FLAPPY BIRD!?!?

This. . . This is how you write a revenge story. I don't want to spoil anything so I recommend everyone play it through to the end because it is completely worth it.
This may seem odd, but the gameplay reminds me of Punchout. I just love everything about this game.
You earned this 5!

Thanks a lot!

I actually had Punch Out in mind at the early design stages :)

Now; I am one to enjoy pixel-y graphics, but the fact that everything looks so... "Mario-esque" (Did I spell that right) actually takes away from the game instead of adding to it. The game even decided to trick me with gold blocks that I can't break because I'm not Mario. But at least our character is cute (I like bunnies).
There doesn't seem to be any story here and normally I'm okay with that, but what's my motivation for killing turtles is it a "Tortoise and the Hare" thing? If so: why am I fighting birds? And what do they turn into when they die!?
The music is okay, I think that we needed more tracks, but of course I couldn't make it past level 3 which brings me to my final point...
[LIGHTNING ROUND!!] Oh my God! That potion is the worst power up in video game history... EVER! It doesn't make you INVINCIBLE, it makes you INTANGIBLE (Ghost-like) allowing you to pass through enemies... and carrots, hearts, clocks, you can't even kill enemies while it's active. At the same time the game is too hard and too easy: Enemies and Items don't re-spawn when you die and there are no mid-level check-points. And then I died... still waiting for the game over screen to end...
Over all this game has potential if you could break away from the Mario-ness this could be a great Platformer. Unfortunately this demo is very lacking which is why it only gets 2.5 stars.

PS. On a side note (This is for all you flash developers out there) just because it's a Mario-like platformer doesn't mean you have to have a sprint button for the sole purpose of "Sprint across these stepping stones" I get there and think "Hm? What am I supposed to do here(?)" I'm so sick of that puzzle: just because they did it in {Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels} doesn't mean you have to do it here. Also might I recommend Re-mapable controls? It's really hard to Jump with a damaged "x" key (long story). But for now, I'm gonna hit re-fresh and try again.

PPS: That "Game over" screen lasting forever thing IS a glitch... right?

I do like the idea, but I'd like to offer some constructive criticism; don't take this the wrong way, but "play more games" should never be above "play level" it feels like a giant ad for the other website and accidentally clicking it is annoying. "play more games" should only be at the title screen, not in-between levels, if I wanted to go to a different site I'd would rather go there after I was done with this. Another thing, whenever I got some ammo for a weapon I instantly switched to that weapon, shouldn't the player decide if he/she wants to change weapons? And finally, this is no big deal, but it confused me, why are stars worth less points than mushrooms? Stars are clearly more important than mushrooms in the Mario universe. That's all I've got for this rant, and otherwise the game was really good, good game-play, good graphics, good music, overall, nicely done.

Well... It was a good idea, but it could be done better; I liked your choice of music, but after a while it abruptly stops and after another while it suddenly comes back, I know this because it came back and startled the crap out of me while I was typing this. Also, it would help if you didn't bash the player for losing, "Ha! You Lose." is not the best way to keep a player playing after losing.
I think that's all of the constructive criticism I can offer, see ya.

Nice.

It's simple, it's fun, it's got good music. It's just a brilliant flash game, I can think of nothing more to say, good job!

Nicely done, I hope for more upgrades (Maybe updates would be a better word) to this game and hopefully the full version! it seems to be coming along quite well so far, but I think we need a "stat window" of some kind that shows our other stats besides HP and MP, you know, attack, magic, etc.
That's about all I've got, see you next time.

I like it.

I actually think that this is my favorite game in the Thing Thing series. And just like every Run n' gun game I've played here; my favorite weapons are the shotguns. I do have a question though; throughout the game our HP slowly regenerates, but we seem to stop regenerating health at the final boss, is this programed in, or were my eyes just messing with me? an answer would be appreciated, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Well, thanks for a fun game, 5 stars!

I love this game.

This was my introduction to the Madness series and I think it's awesome. After 3 shots, I finally won on Madness Mode, it was difficult, but it gave me a great sense of accomplishment! I had a lot of fun blasting enemies with shotguns, this game is awesome, as is the rest of the Madness series, I like how in this game, you have the choice of the game being keyboard controlled or mouse controlled, that was brilliant, I also loved the music; music is an important part of the gaming experience and this music sets the mood perfectly. Wow looks like I'm rambling a bit, I look forward to more Madness! Thank you!
